That’s okay! Many of our performers are trying theatre for the first time. We’ll help them through every step. Ensemble roles are a great place to start, and everyone has a part to play. We also offer Audition Workshops so students can:

• Practice on stage
• Meet the creative team
• Get comfortable before audition day

Shrek Kids Audition Form

Judges include members of the creative director team and outside consultants. Directors do not score their own children or close relatives. We use a rubric to score auditions, combined with a teacher recommendation. Scores help us determine ensembles. Callback decisions are based on these scores and other observations.  

Practice in front of a mirror or record and review
Focus on:
Projection – The judges are seated far from the stage. Volume matters!
Facial expressions & simple body movements – Just 1–2 planned movements help show character.
Introductions – Practice clearly saying their name, age, class, and song selection
Most importantly: Have fun! Auditions are a chance to perform, not a test.
 

If the Directors deem necessary, call-backs will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. We will contact anyone we want to see as soon as possible

Drop off and pick-up will take place in the FHES carline. You should bring your child to check-in no later than 10 minutes before his/her audition time. There will be a waiting area for parents while your child is auditioning.

While the audition process typically takes around 20 minutes, please understand that our team may occasionally run behind, especially during the first few audition groups. We appreciate your patience if students need a little extra time.

How will casting be announced? The full cast list will be posted on the Fox Theatre website on Sunday evening following the audition (August 22). Our team is also committed to emailing everyone who auditioned as soon as the cast list goes live.

Will we be notified? Yes—an email will go out to all participants.

What if my child is disappointed? Please encourage them to accept their role. All roles are essential. If your child does not want to accept, let us know immediately so we can notify alternate cast members.

What if my child doesn’t get cast? A cast of about 20-30 will be chosen for Shrek KIDS. If your child is not selected for the cast, please consider joining our crew! Crew application information will be shared at a later date.

Frequency: 2–3 rehearsals per week, more as performance nears. Not all students attend every rehearsal.

Attendance Policy:

1. Up to 3 excused absences before Nov. 1 (must be submitted in writing)
2. MANDATORY rehearsals begin Nov. 1

*Please note: We will not be having rehearsals during any GMSD scheduled breaks.

There will be a total of 3 show performances November 19-21, 2026. More information soon.

• Parent Volunteer Requirement: Every family is asked to join a committee (costumes, props, set design, cast party, etc.)
• Opt-Out Option: Families who cannot volunteer may contribute a $150 donation instead.
• Committee Sign-Up: Committees will be filled after the parent meeting. Chairs will contact volunteers once rosters are finalized.

• Participation Fee: $165 per cast member. Covers scripts, costumes, production materials, and tech needs.
• Costumes: Provided! Some items like shoes or undershirts may be requested from home.
• Financial Assistance: No formal scholarships, but families with financial concerns should email fhesfoxtheatre@gmail.com
