Drones, Discovery, and the Letter 'D': Preschoolers at Forest Hill Elementary Soar with Hands-On Learning

This week, preschool students in Ms. Davis' class at Forest Hill Elementary had a thrilling experience as they explored the letter “D” in a way that soared above the ordinary—a live drone demonstration! The lesson, designed to introduce students to words starting with "D," came to life when Instructional Technology Coach Kaitlin Knoll and School Technology Support Kyle Dawson brought drones to the school's bus loop for an exciting demonstration.

As the drones whizzed around, the students watched in awe. This hands-on experience was part of their focus on the letter “D,” where they learned new words like “drone,” “dizzy,” and “dynamic.” Ms. Davis made sure to connect the dots for her curious learners, using this opportunity to expand their vocabulary in an unforgettable way.

The event didn't just stop with the demonstration. Students learned about how drones are used in various industries—from delivering packages to capturing stunning aerial photography. The day’s theme inspired wonder and learning as these budding scholars immersed themselves in “D”-themed activities all week long.

This event is a perfect example of how GMSD’s teachers and staff continue to foster innovative learning experiences, even for their youngest students. By integrating modern technology with traditional learning, Ms. Davis, Ms. Knoll, and Mr. Dawson provided a dynamic and engaging way for preschoolers to explore the world of letters.
